Stabbing in Canada being investigated as terrorism

Police believe there was an ISIS flag inside suspect’s car.

A police officer was stabbed and at least four people were injured by a speeding U-Haul truck in events that police in Edmonton, Canada, said were being investigated as acts of terror.

One suspect was in custody, said Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht, adding that police believe the suspect acted alone.

The chaos began outside Commonwealth Stadium, where a Canadian Football League game was being played. Police say a white Chevy Malibu rammed a traffic-control barricade and sent an officer flying.

Knecht said the driver then got out and attacked the officer with a knife. The officer was stabbed multiple times before the suspect fled on foot, the Edmonton Journal reported.

The officer was not critically wounded, the Globe and Mail reported.

A few hours later, a U-Haul van was stopped at an impaired driving check stop and the driver sped off with police in pursuit.

Police say the U-Haul hit and injured four pedestrians before it rolled and the suspect was arrested.

Saturday’s attack began with an incident outside Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium, where a Canadian Football League game was underway.

“There were people flying and everything,” witness Kim Anderson told the Edmonton Journal. “I’m shocked — I just see people flying.”

Knecht confirmed that an ISIS flag was discovered inside the van, the Edmonton Journal reported.

Later, the same suspect was pulled over at a police check stop on Wayne Gretzky Drive, this time driving the U-Haul. The suspect, believed to be 30 years old, drove off when police recognized him as the owner of the Malibu, the newspaper reported.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Statement by the Prime Minister after a terrorist attack in Edmonton

      October 1, 2017
      Ottawa, Ontario

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement after a terrorist attack in Edmonton:

“The Government of Canada and Canadians stand with the people of Edmonton after the terrorist attack on Saturday that sent an Edmonton Police Service officer to hospital and injured a number of innocent people who were out to cheer on their football team and to enjoy an evening in their city. I am deeply concerned and outraged by this tragedy.

“Our thoughts are with those injured, their family and friends, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. I am also grateful for the first responders who were there on the scene, and the enforcement authorities who have been working through the night to make sure that everybody in Edmonton and Alberta is safe and secure. Police officers put themselves at great personal risk every single day on our behalf, and this attack is a stark reminder of the sacrifices they make for the public good.

“While the investigation continues, early reports indicate that this is another example of the hate that we must remain ever vigilant against. The RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service, through the Integrated National Enforcement Team, are working closely together to bring those involved to justice.

“We cannot – and will not – let violent extremism take root in our communities. We know that Canada’s strength comes from our diversity, and we will not be cowed by those who seek to divide us or promote fear. Edmonton is a strong and resilient city, and I am confident that its citizens will support one another to overcome this tragic event.”

  1. We don’t know for sure if this was a Canadian born man or a refugee or immigrant…..but I’m sure there will be many here who will automatically assume that it was a refugee that turd-boy brought in without any evidence to support their assumption.

    • Perhaps not….. perhaps this madman was Canadian born. There is no evidence yet to know for sure if this was a refugee or not. I won’t be assuming it is. When we know the details then we can be certain.

      • Being born in Canada is not the issue, it’s the religious culture they come from that’s the main identifier where Islamic terrorism is concerned.

      • I don’t believe I disputed that FatherJon….. what I will dispute though is the comment you made above. At this time there is no evidence as to who the perpetrator was, nor of what background he is from, yet you assume that it is because of turd-boy’s generosity. In other words….you believe that it was an Islamic refugee who did this attack.

What I was saying…..it might just be an Islamic or perhaps a Caucasian convert to islam OR it also could be a First Nations person, or an ANTIFA member. We don’t know at this time.

I submit he had a support group one-and-a-half billion strong.
