Merkel’s terror legacy in political backlash: ‘Merkel’s dead’

She should be. She should be arrested, charged with treason and hanged. Berlin Christmas market attack ‘particularly repugnant’ if carried out by refugee, says Merkel. Isn’t it pretty rich of her to make these statements? Everyone, especially her, have been well aware what is pouring into Europe and she is personally responsible for it, blocking the freedom for Greece, Spain and Italy to shoot at the invaders as they illegally try to enter Europe.

Furious backlash at German Chancellor’s immigration policy as far-right declare that victims of Berlin terror attack are ‘Merkel’s dead’

  • Terror attacker drove 32-ton truck through Christmas market in Berlin last night
  • 15 were killed in attack, thought to have been carried out by an asylum seeker
  • Angela Merkel has faced political pressure over open-doors immigration policy
  • Far-right AfD group has lashed out over her stance in the wake of the attack

Angela Merkel has faced a furious backlash over her open-doors policy on immigration after the deadly lorry attack on a Christmas market in the heart of Berlin.

A 23-year-old Pakistani asylum seeker named as Naved B, who entered the country under a false name, murdered 12 and injured dozens gathered at the market last night.

German chancellor Merkel, 62, has come under huge political pressure for allowing nearly a million people fleeing conflict and poverty in the Middle East and Africa to arrive in the country this year and last.

And last night she faced anger from the far-right anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party with prominent member Marcus Pretzell tweeting: ‘When will the German state of law strike back? When will this cursed hypocrisy finally stop? These are Merkel’s dead! (hash)Nice (hash)Berlin.’

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage added this morning: ‘Terrible news from Berlin but no surprise. Events like these will be the Merkel legacy.’

The record influx of migrants in the last 12 months has hit Merkel’s popularity ratings and boosted support for the AfD with the 62-year-old having recently announced her intention to stand for re-election again next year.

The German leader has staked much of her political capital in opening up Germany’s doors to refugees and in doing so divided a reunited land.

What began as an act of great humanity, borne in part out of Germany’s lingering guilt for the Second World War, has morphed into a political nightmare for Merkel.

The news that Monday night’s attacker is a Pakistani asylum seeker – known to police as a petty criminal but not as an Islamic fanatic – ahead of her bid for a fourth term in office next year may be the final nail in the coffin of her ambitions.

German officials have said that he entered Germany via the Balkans between December 31 and February. He was believed to be living in a refugee camp at Berlin’s Tempelhof airport, which was raided by an elite group of armed anti-terror police at 4am this morning.

It now seems certain that the attacker – who fled from the Polish truck after it came to a halt and was later arrested – killed the driver beforehand. He was found dead in the cab and was initially thought to have been an accomplice.

German chancellor Merkel, 62, has come under huge political pressure for allowing nearly a million people fleeing conflict and poverty in the Middle East and Africa to arrive in the country this year and last.

Last night Merkel reacted quickly to the atrocity, with spokesman Steffen Seibert tweeting: ‘We mourn the dead and hope that the many people injured can be helped.’

The truck was taken from a building site in Poland. According to the firm owner, Ariel Zurawski, the driver – his cousin – was no longer contactable after 4pm.

The GPS data of the truck shows that between 3pm and 7pm the engine was turned on and off several times. The last time it started up was at 19.34pm, less than 30 minutes before it was used to attack the Christmas market in the heart of west Berlin.

Police say the 25-tonne truck smashed the wooden stalls of the market to matchwood and crushed people caught in its path next to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church – a ruin of World War Two that stands as a monument against war.

The driver was caught a short while later near the Victory Column, a huge statue in the Tiergarten area of Berlin about two miles from the scene of the carnage.

ISIS in recent weeks had made renewed calls for disciples to carry out atrocities in Europe and German intelligence warned Berlin authorities recently that the city’s bustling markets – tourist magnets for foreigners – were vulnerable to attack.

ISIS in recent weeks had made renewed calls for disciples to carry out atrocities in Europe and German intelligence warned Berlin authorities recently that the city’s bustling markets – tourist magnets for foreigners – were vulnerable to attack.

Officials of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the BfV, had for long warned of potentially hundreds of terrorists disguised as refugees making it to Germany hidden among the real migrants.

Now the nightmare has come true for Germany: a country which has not sent its troops to fight anywhere since the Second World War is now at war with ISIS.

Merkel has so far refused to amend her refugee policy, however, insisting that Germany can take in large numbers of migrants in the years to come. Allies and critics alike say she ignored the warning signs of calamity at her peril.

The rape and murder of a beautiful young student in the city of Freiburg in October by a 17-year-old migrant was bad for her. What happened in Berlin is a catastrophe and one which she may find difficult to survive.

Germany – which this year has seen an ISIS refugee disciple blow himself up outside a cafe in Bavaria, another asylum seeker trying to hack Chinese tourists to death aboard a train and a Syrian refugee detained for allegedly planning to bomb a Berlin airport – was braced for trouble.

But no-one could forsee it being a virtual re-run of the lorry attack in Nice, France, earlier this year.

Even so, the US State Department had issued a warning last month telling its citizens to be cautious during ‘holiday festivals, events and outdoor markets’.

The warning said: ‘Credible information indicates the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, al Qaeda, and their affiliates continue to plan terrorist attacks in Europe, with a focus on the upcoming holiday season and associated events.

‘US citizens should also be alert to the possibility that extremist sympathisers or self-radicalised extremists may conduct attacks during this period with little or no warning.’

  1. Merkel liken to a gardener planted seeds of Muslim evil. She could not uproot these evil now and they are destroying Germany. Once a Christian country now about to be desolated and breeding ground of Islamic terrorists!

  2. Once a nation decides it is At War—it can dispense w/the niceties of civil society…Time to allow someone now who has the balls/ovum to do that!

  3. If Merkel’s humanitarian motives for allowing refugees into Germany are born out of guilt for what was done in WW2, should she not be admitting persecuted Christians and Jews rather than those who rejoice in the Holocaust or deny it ?
