Police have charged a 40-year-old Toronto man with first-degree murder after a woman’s body was discovered near a roadway in Kleinburg on Thursday afternoon.
The body, belonging to an adult woman, was discovered by a passerby in a wooded area near a ravine off Highway 27 and Nashville Road at around 3:30 p.m.
“The call was made by someone who resides in the area and observed something suspicious and called,” Const. Laura Nicolle said on Friday. “There is a belief that the body was not there the day before.”
On Friday night, Toronto Police identified the victim as Elana Fric Shamji, 40, of Toronto.
A suspect identified as Mohammed Shamji, 40, of Toronto was arrested and charged on Friday.
He is expected to appear in court at Old City Hall on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
Nashville Road was closed in both directions between Stenson Ave and Highway 27 to allow police to investigate.
