JFK airport evacuated after shots are fired

‘Shots fired’ panic at JFK: All passengers are evacuated from two terminals, flights are grounded and a huge army of cops hunts for an elusive ‘gunman’ – after TWO mystery reports of gunfire

  • Thousands of passengers were forced to flee the terminal on Sunday
  • A massive police presence had responded to reports of shots fired
  • Preliminary investigation found no evidence of shooting, authorities say
  • Port Authority said terminal was evacuated out of an ‘abundance of caution’

Police evacuated Terminals 8 at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport out of an ‘abundance of caution’ following reports of gunfire – but say investigators found no evidence of shots fired.

Thousands of passengers were forced to evacuate the terminal shortly after 9.30pm as police searched for an alleged armed suspect on Sunday evening.

Terminals 1 and the Van Wyck Expressway approaching JFK Airport was also closed as a safety precaution.

However, no injuries were reported and flights due to land at JFK were diverted to Buffalo and those destined for the airport, in Queens, were grounded.

But in a statement, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said: ‘Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK.

‘At this time, no gun shells or other evidence of shots fired has been found. The terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.’

The Port Authority added that a substantial police presence of PAPD and NYPD officers remains at JFK as well as LaGuardia Airport.

They added that an investigation is ongoing and that travelers should contact their carriers for further information.

Port Authority police received a call about shots being fired from the American Airlines’ Terminal 8 departures area, ABC7 reports.

In a statement, the airline said that there were no known injuries to their employees or passengers.

The panic at the terminal began after a woman told police she saw a man with a gun at the terminal, according to the New York Post.

The passenger told police about the man shortly after 9.30pm, prompting police to evacuate the terminal as they hunted the alleged gunman.

An NYPD Emergency Services Unit officer armed with automatic rifles scoured the area and passengers, according to the Post.

Dan Archer, who was in the terminal at the time, reported ‘panic’ as gates were closed at security due to a ‘possible shooter.’

‘Still not confirmed shooter police armed and patrolling we’re still in security by screening with gates locked down,’ he said on Twitter.

Robbie Rob added: ‘Everyone is being kicked out of the terminal. Police on alert!’

Some passengers on social media reported flights due to land at JFK were being diverted without crew informing them why.

  1. This was a test of JFK’s security services. The jihadis called in the “shots” to see what the police will do and how they do it and where everyone was evacuated. It was a dry run.
The 911 terrorists did the same. Dry run flights seeing what they could smuggle through security. We are being watched and plotted against.

  2. How is it possible that a people who are learning that, if they hear gunfire or screams of Allah-hu Akbar, they must run for their lives from the Muslim murderers on the attack, still support a Presidential candidate who has pledged to parlay the Jihad attacks of today into catastrophic bloodbaths that kill the decent people by the hundreds on a regular basis?

Will it take a Breslin-like attack in every Blue State to smarten up the American chumps? Three thousand dead on September 11 wasn’t enough?

  3. Unfortunately there are bound to be heaps of false alarms all over the world as people get skittish about terrorist attacks. But a little paranoia hurt nobody, and may help avert further real attacks.

  4. “A woman reported seeing a man with a gun” …. hopefully not the same imbecile who caused sections of I95 to be shut down after reporting overhearing “terrorists plotting” in a roadside cafe after 9/11. I am still angry about that.
