Indonesian crew member of Holland American cruises rape, beat and try to strangle guest after she ‘insulted’ him

They kill people over cartoons. Why would they not rape, strangle and try and kill a woman who ignore their advances. He claims she insulted him after he overheard the term SOB being used by her. It sounds more like a cultural misunderstanding. SOB is like “fuck”. It’s a swear word and doesn’t necessarily refer to an individual. In addition, he could have made it all up. Closer to truth may be that his pride was wounded from her ignoring his advances. A woman has a value lower than a rabbid dog in Islamic nations.

Why do Western countries bring in these people from cultures so alien to a normal democracy? This appears to be fully his own cultural misunderstanding and his despise for women. He probably had a lot of hatred for Americans in general, which is very common in Islamic societies. Who would even think of raping, beating, strangling and trying to throw someone overboard over some offense that brings an imaginary insult? Trying to kill her is apparently not insulting him nor his family. How many women had he tried to rape in Indonesia?

A female guest who was raped, brutally beaten and strangled unconscious on a Holland America ship by a crew member is suing the cruise company.

A civil lawsuit was filed on Friday in a Seattle district court on behalf of Jane Doe who was almost thrown overboard by her rapist during the fight for her life on Valentine’s Day last year on MS Nieuw Amsterdam.

Room service attendant Ketut Pujayasa used his company-issued, master key to enter the cabin of Jane Doe, then 31, where he was able to lurk on her balcony for several hours until she returned.

The female passenger on a Holland America cruise ship suffered horrific injuries after she was raped, beaten and strangled in a brutal attack by a cabin crew member last February 14

The woman survived after fighting for her life against Ketut Pujayasa who tried to throw her overboard last year. The victim filed a civil lawsuit against Holland American last week

Holland America was ‘grossly negligent’, Jane Doe’s attorney John H. (Jack) Hickey told Daily Mail Online on Wednesday, in allowing Pujayasa access to a master key which was ‘applicable to all cabins’.

Mr Hickey, a maritime law specialist with more than 30 years experience, added: ‘To top it off, the cruise line’s system is that when the other passengers dial 911 they get the front desk, not security, and the front desk responds to the scene some 45 minutes to an hour later and does not even have access to the cabin?

Ketut Pujayasa pleaded guilty in a Miami courtroom last September to rape and attempted murder. He was convicted and is serving 30 years

‘If this is not the definition of outrageous, I don’t know what is.’

On February 14, 2014, the married woman, who was on the cruise with a group of friends but had a room to herself, returned around midnight and got ready for bed.

As she climbed into the bed and turned off the lights, in the shadows, she became aware of a figure lurking on the stateroom balcony.

Pujayasa, a 29-year-old employee originally from Indonesia, pounced on the woman.

During the sustained attack, which lasted close to an hour, Pujayasa punched her, smashed heavy blunt objects into her head including a laptop, and threw her across the room.

The rapist attempted to strangle his victim with his hands and then used a telephone cord and a curling iron cord.

The victim lost consciousness during the attack where she was raped and sexually assaulted.

Pujayasa pulled the woman to her room’s balcony and tried to throw her overboard into the dark waters.

She screamed repeatedly but no one responded.

The victim was able to hold on to the door handle to prevent being dragged on to the balcony.

Mr Hickey said it was only by having a certain degree of physical strength as part of her career as an aerialist, that his client was able to hold on.

The victim eventually escaped herself. She managed to wrestle free of Pujayasa, opened the door to her cabin on her own, and ran into the hall where other passengers had congregated.

She was partially naked and was ‘painted with blood’, according to reports, and ‘managed to escape down the hall with the cord of a curling iron that he was using to strangle her still wrapped around her neck’.

An FBI report on the attack stated: ‘[The woman], fearing death was imminent, asked the passenger to relay to her family how much she loved them.’

The victim suffered a deep laceration to her left cheek, skull fracture and a wound to the back of the head which required staples.

According to the lawsuit: ‘He [Pujayasa] beat her head and face so hard that she experienced shifting of her teeth. All of the trauma to her head produced a traumatic brain injury.’

She suffered bites to the hands which left marks; a spinal fracture, swelling, bruising and lacerations to the face, scalp, head, neck, back, front of torso, arms, and legs and abrasions on both arms.

Cord marks were left on her neck from being repeatedly strangled. She has suffered a long-term brain injury due to being beaten about the head and having her oxygen supply cut off with repeated strangulation.

Jane Doe, who is married without children, also suffers flashbacks and PTSD from the horrific ordeal.

Although fellow passengers made urgent 911 calls to security that night, no Holland America staff responded immediately to the reports of an attack.

One guest told a staff member that ‘they head a woman saying ”he’s trying to kill me”’.

According to the lawsuit, an insufficient number of security personnel were on duty and the emergency calls made by concerned fellow passengers did not reach a security office directly but the front desk.

The front desk employee ‘triaged’ the call, Mr Hickey told Daily Mail Online, but only deemed it ‘medium priority’. Documents revealed that a day earlier, a blocked toilet had been ‘high priority’.

Only one ‘roving security guard’ was on duty that night, on a ship holding around 3,000 people, Mr Hickey said.

When cruise personnel finally arrived in the hallway, it was front desk member of staff and not security.

The staff member had no master key to access the cabin and merely knocked gently on the door and asked: ‘Madam? Madam?’, a witness reported.

There was no attempt to break down the door to reach the endangered passenger.

The lawsuit alleged that Holland America ‘allowed the perpetrator, a junior room service attendant, who beat and attempted to murder the passenger, to have more access to room keys and thus to cabins than the person responding to an emergency on board’.

The cruise ship docked in Honduras and the victim was airlifted to a Florida hospital.

Pujayasa escaped the room by jumping from balcony to balcony and told a workmate that he had ‘killed a guest’. The colleague reported him to a superior and he held by the ship’s security until reaching a U.S. port.

The room service attendant told police he decided to attack the woman after she apparently told him: ‘Wait a minute, son of a b****’ when he knocked on her door with her breakfast.

Pujayasa pleaded guilty in a Miami courtroom last September to rape and attempted murder. He is serving 30 years in prison.

In a statement to Daily Mail Online on Wednesday, Holland America said the emergency calls were given the highest priority.

A statement read: ‘We are terribly saddened that this event occurred. Our thoughts, prayers and support remain with the victim and we are committed to a fair and collaborative resolution of this tragic event. It is right that justice prevailed and the perpetrator was sentenced accordingly.

‘To our knowledge, no incident like this has occurred before in our company’s 142-year history. It is our highest priority to ensure the safety and security of our guests.

‘We do strongly refute the statement that emergency calls to our staff related to this situation were given anything but the highest priority.’

Mr Hickey told Daily Mail Online that Holland America did not have records for their 142-year history. They company had called a request for five years of records ‘overburdensome’, according to the attorney.

The lawsuit was filed against Holland America in the U.S. District Court Western District of Washington at Seattle on May 29, seeking $50million in compensatory damages and $365 million in punitive damages.

A trial date has been set for November 7, 2016.

  1. Poor woman, I hope she gets a big payout. The attitude of “some” cultures who work on Cruises is awful. Indonesians, Indians, in particular. Of course you use the phone to ring Desk or Somewhere, and it does not get answered. Cruise Lines really do need to improve their security and service.

  2. Hopefully she wins all the damages that she is asking for.
If the company have to pay out MILLIONS because they’ve employed a muslim, then maybe people will think twice about employing muslim scum. .
let this be a lesson to all employers; hire a muslim and it could end up closing your business… moral of the story don’t employ muslims, don’t trade with muslims…. dont even by a newspaper from them.

  3. My daughter loves ship cruises, I’ve told her they are not safe, but she doesn’t agree, because she doesn’t understand.

Most people assume they are under the rules of the country they are from. The “Truth” is when you’re on a cruise ship, Its the rules of whatever country registers it and international rules that govern. When you board, you are literally in a different country. The first rules you’re under are the cruise lines, and their rules are designed to make them look good, make money and to keep them safe from legal action.

People are robbed, raped, beaten and even murdered on cruise lines. People just disappear, with the assumption they jumped or fell over board being the final ruling.

The evidence is routinely, destroyed, by the staff, in an attempt to shield the cruise lines, to prevent negative PR or future legal damages. Which hinders prosecution of these crimes, but getting to the truth.

Individuals caught in suspisious activity, are “fired,” but since there is no legal record of any kind (criminal or otherwise), the individual, just finds work on another ship; no questions asked. Staff is usually from a 3rd world country; who’s economy is challenged and staff members may speak limited English.

When you take these wonderful cruises you literally are at someone else mercy. And while you may have had a wonderful time, the truth is you’ve just played “Russian roulette” with your life; kiss the ground and thank God you made it … This time!!

  4. Why do they employ these barbarian chimpanzees?
Certainly not to save money, LOL.
This goat raping little bugger might end up costing the line a cool half $ billion 🙂
Note to HA HR: employ civilized Western humans only – will save you mony in long term.
